3PLs Remain Committed to Sustainability

Despite the global recession of 2008 and 2009, many large third-party logistics (3PL) companies increased their commitments to developing greener practices and building environmental sustainability programs, according to a new report released yesterday by Penske Logistics and Dr. Robert C. Lieb, Professor of Supply Chain Management at Northeastern University.

Empty Coca-Cola Barrels Used to Collect Rainwater at Nose Creek Watershed Partnership

The Coca-Cola Bottling Company is donating empty 55-gallon concentrate barrels to the Nose Creek Watershed Partnership so that they can be reused to collect rainwater.

The Nose Creek Watershed Partnership, a longstanding advocate of water conservation, says these rain barrels will save money on water bills, conserve water during dry periods and prevent polluted run-off. In addition, the reuse of these 55-gallon barrels will also avoid the energy consumed when the barrels are otherwise recycled. (more…)

Novation Asks Suppliers to Incorporate Specific Sustainable Practices

Novation, a leading healthcare supply contracting company, has invited its suppliers to incorporate sustainability into their company practices.

In a letter signed by Novation’s member-driven Environmental Advisory Group and Peter Allen, senior vice president of sourcing operations, more than 500 of the company’s suppliers were asked to look into their manufacturing and distribution processes to see where they can implement specific sustainable practices.

US Announces New Energy and Climate Initiatives for the Americas

Last week, energy ministers from across the hemisphere gathered at the Energy and Climate Ministerial of the Americas, hosted by U.S. Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu.

The Ministerial is part of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton used the occasion to announce new initiatives that the Department of State is sponsoring under ECPA to expand energy and climate cooperation in the Americas.
