Ingersoll Rand Surveys Suppliers About Their Environmental Impact

November 18, 2009

progress_is_greener Ingersoll RandTaking a page from Walmart’s playbook, Ingersoll Rand has launched a survey designed to capture data relating to the environmental impact of its supplier network.

According to a press release,  the data will be used to assess the current state of key environmental factors across Ingersoll Rand’s supply chain and to help suppliers reduce the environmental impact of their business practices as part of the company’s long-term sustainability efforts.

The survey targets the company’s top 500 global suppliers, representing 80 percent of Ingersoll Rand’s direct material spend, and will collect data relating to:

• the supply chain’s greenhouse gas emissions,
• nonhazardous waste production, and
• water usage.

In addition, the survey will ascertain suppliers’ targeted reductions for each area. If a supplier does not currently have a program to measure its environmental impact, Ingersoll Rand plans to ask about immediate-term plans for implementing a suitable program.

Congratulations to Ingersoll Rand for taking this bold step. Initiatives like this bring clarity, while revealing the fundamental role of the supply chain in every company’s sustainability efforts.

Ingersoll Rand is a $13 billion global diversified industrial corporation, and this new survey is just one of the many ways the company is incorporating sustainability into its overall business strategy.

For instance, one of Ingersoll Rand’s most recognizable brands is Club Car, a legendary manufacturer of golf cars and utility vehicles. To watch a short video clip about Club Car’s environmental commitment, use this link:
